Mrs. Rampiano, I would like to share my thoughts with you. I have been in CAP for 5 years now and I am now in the "real Air Force." It is very common for cadets to seem to be on a "power trip." Some it is true, do not lead by example, or try to be junior drill sergeants 24/7. To some extent, this is part of the learning process. I remember as a young cadet thinking "i can't wait until I am a sergeant so that I can yell at people." I have been a part of training that is as intense as what goes on active duty. "In your face" training has its place, in fact it is my favorite kind. As i have matured I have learned to use it properly, and with discretion, however. It is up to us, as older cadets and senior members to teach younger cadets how to lead. It is ultimately our responsibility to keep the less mature cadets in line, yet still give them a chance to learn to lead. If this is not being then someone higher up needs to get control of the situation. This does not, however mean that senior members run everything. In the most sucessful squadrons, the cadets run everything with guidance, except when senior members are absolutely essential. I think the biggest factors leading to abuse of authority is the insanely young age at which cadets can join(11-thats mithcell at 12), lack of experienced older cadets in some units, and in some cases, inadequate SM leadership.
Good luck in CAP.
