Group III is hosting a wing wide sarex
October 23rd through 25th at the Murfreesboro Airport (MBT) Group III of the Tennessee Wing of the Civil Air Patrol will be hosting a wing wide Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX)
The SAREX will provide initial / renewal sortie opportunities to Mission Pilots, Observers, Scanners, Flight-Line Personnel, Mission Base Personnel and Ground Team Personnel that need to start or renew their SQTR specialties.

Civil Air Patrol takes to the Skies for the National Weather Service
During the past two days, eight Civil Air Patrol members have worked a total of 99 man hours doing what they do best, serving their communities. Civil Air Patrol Mission pilots 2nd Lt Billy Cesarano and 2nd Lt Nordehl Unbehaun along with Mission Observer 1st Lt Frank LaJoie, all from McGhee-Tyson squadrons, flew more than 10 hours at the request of Mr. Tim Troutman, Warning Coordination Meteorologist, and the National Weather Service. Civil Air Patrol Assists National Weather Service
Tennessee Wing Civil Air Patrol aircraft is preparing to depart McGhee-Tyson Airport this afternoon. Crew members will take aerial digital photographs to assist the National Weather Service (NWS) in reviewing and assessing damage caused by last Friday’s storms. At the request of the National Weather Service, the mission today will follow a storm track through McMinn County Tennessee. Mr. Tim Troutman, Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the NWS will be flying with the crew to assess the damage. TN Wing received its first glass cockpit aircraft in 2007. A second in 2008 and on January 11, 2009 Maj Stephen Kintner and Maj Ian Jackson departed for Kansas to retrieve a third. During the trip they delivered one of our airplanes, N97018, to Dodge City Kansas to be modified and used in another CAP Wing as a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) trainer and picked up the newest G1000 C182 for TN Wing.

CAP and Aerospace Education for K-12 Teachers
The Division of Aeronautics within the Tennessee Department of Transportation provides grants to The University of Tennessee – Knoxville to support aerospace education workshops for K-12 teachers. Similar programs are also available at three other state campuses of higher education. These other campuses are East Tennessee State University, Middle Tennessee State University and University of Memphis. Although each has its own special curriculum, they all focus on providing K-12 teachers across the state with skills for the raising science and mathematics knowledge base of students through aerospace education.
